I have recently been outragiously lucky to have been accepted in Seniors Partnering with Artists Citywide (SPARC), a community arts engagement program that places artists‐in‐residence at senior centers across the five boroughs of New York City. Through the program, 50 artists provide creative programming for seniors and present free public events displaying a diverse array of projects this spring and summer. SPARC is a collaboration among the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department for the Aging and the City's five local arts councils. The program was developed in 2009 as part of the Mayor’s Age‐Friendly NYC initiative, and is supported, in part, by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.  For more information, visit www.nyc.gov/culture. 

I have been teaching, as well as learning a lot I must say, for about two months at the Fort Greene Grant Square Senior Center. I have had the luck of getting to know some of the most amazing, passionate, spiritual, funny and unbelievably talented woman I have met in a long time. This has truly been a wonderful experience and I am really excited for our big Pinata Fiesta Thursday April 5th.

What an amazing last few months... I've been a busy time for sure. Just a few moments for recap:
  • Llaves Designs housed a booth at Maker Faire NYC and assisted almost 600 kids, parents and a few adults without kids who just wanted to make a mess.  It was such a great day that we actually took home a blue ribbon! We were Maker's Choice!

  • Years back I was asked to write a how-to-make-pinatas for BUST Magazine and I guess they put me in their anthology of crafters!!! WOOOHOOO! I haven't seen it yet but am excited to visit them at one of their book tours.

M&M's Pretzel's had a birthday party and decided to make a 46 foot pinata, now being the largest pinata ever created.  I am disappointed they did not find a giant to hit it open but am happy they chose to make it orange.

So I missed out on something this weekend for lack of knowing and lack of time... there was a Massive Mad Hatter Tea Party in Thompkins Square. I have been obsessed with Alice in Wonderland for years so this would have been one sight to see and I can play one good drunk mouse.

What does this have to do with pinatas you ask, well it turns out some mastermind created a Humpty Dumpty pinata!!! Check out the recap over at Bowery Boogie.

Also, I watched this with my assistant and she was just amazed at how fun it looked. Silly is really looking forward to making Cat Piñatas.
